The most affordable Assisted Living in the Norfolk Area

Owned and operated as a not-for-profit assisted living community by Virginia United Methodist Homes, Inc, the Lydia H. Roper Home in Norfolk, Virginia is a symbol of style and grace in a modern age.

In the 1920's, it was built by Captain John Roper in honor of his wife, Lydia. The purpose of the home was to provide a comfortable residence for older women, and over the years, this original intent has been preserved.

In 1963, a grandson of Captain and Lydia Roper formally presented the home to the Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church. The only condition made by the family was that the home continue to bear the name of Lydia Roper and remain a home for ladies. Virginia United Methodist Homes, Inc. ensures that tradition continues.

The ladies who live here share its large, pleasant porches and its peaceful, walled garden. More than anything, however, they share fulfilling lives in a welcoming, caring environment.

Our Residents are fond of saying, “The Lydia H. Roper Home simply feels Like home.

The mission of Virginia United Methodist Homes, Inc.
is to provide facilities, services and programs to enhance
the quality of life for older persons.
